Asia-Pacific EdTech Impact Fellows Program

As we navigate the complexities of the 21st century, the traditional paradigms of education are being challenged. 

In a world characterized by rapid change and information abundance, memorization and rote learning are insufficient. Instead, learners must develop critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and digital literacy skills to thrive in the digital age. With the Education Impact Lab, the Asian School of Governance is organizing the Edtech Impact Fellows to accelerate systems innovation in the education sector. 

Program Overview

The Asia-Pacific EdTech Impact Fellowship Program is an initiative designed to equip fellows with the knowledge, skills, and network necessary to spearhead transformative initiatives in education technology. The program offers five distinct tracks, each tailored to address critical aspects of EdTech implementation and advancement.

Track 1: Education Policy and Governance

This track focuses on understanding the intersection of education policy and technology. Fellows will explore strategies for crafting inclusive policies that promote equitable access to education technology, ensuring that governance frameworks support innovation while safeguarding privacy and security. Key areas of focus include policy analysis, advocacy, and collaboration with governmental and non-governmental stakeholders to drive systemic change.

Track 2: EdTech Trials

In this track, fellows will engage in hands-on experiences to design, implement, and evaluate EdTech interventions. Through rigorous experimentation and data-driven analysis, participants will assess the effectiveness of various educational technologies in diverse learning environments. Emphasis will be placed on identifying best practices, scalability, and sustainable integration of technology to enhance teaching and learning outcomes. Fellows are encouraged to test existing technologies in the curricular/co-curricular setting using solutions such as YetiConfetti, Khan Academy Kids, Duolingo, or edtech startups/solutions emerging out of university incubators. 

Track 3: AI Ethics and Safety

Ethical considerations and safety are paramount in the deployment of education technology. This track explores the ethical implications of artificial intelligence as applied in the education sector, as well as issues related to data privacy, algorithmic bias, and digital citizenship. Fellows will develop frameworks for responsible EdTech implementation, emphasizing ethical decision-making, digital well-being, and fostering safe online learning environments for all stakeholders.

Track 4: Teacher Training and School System Innovations

Effective teacher training and support are essential for successful EdTech integration. This track focuses on empowering educators with the knowledge and skills to leverage technology effectively in the classroom. Fellows will explore innovative pedagogical approaches, professional development strategies, and collaborative tools to enhance teaching practices and student engagement. Additionally, this track addresses systemic barriers and opportunities for innovation within school systems.

Track 5: Others

This track provides flexibility for fellows to pursue specialized areas of interest within the broader field of education technology. Participants may choose to focus on topics such as assessment and feedback, digital literacy, special education, or emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and virtual reality.

Program Structure

• Fellowship Duration: 12 months

• Virtual and In-person Components: The program includes a combination of virtual workshops, seminars, mentorship sessions, and in-person gatherings (subject to health and safety regulations).

• Project-Based Learning: Fellows will collaborate on real-world projects, applying their knowledge and skills to address pressing challenges in education technology.

• Networking Opportunities: Participants will have access to a diverse network of experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration.

• Capstone Project: Each fellow will undertake a capstone project aligned with their chosen track, showcasing their contributions to the advancement of education technology in the Asia-Pacific region.

Application Process

Prospective fellows will undergo a competitive selection process based on their demonstrated expertise, commitment to innovation, and potential for impact in their respective fields. Applications will be evaluated by a panel of experts in education technology, policy, and research.
